- QE404 Sewing Machine
The Frister Rossmann QE404 sewing machine provides an exclusive level of stitch control. With 170 utility and embroidery stitches, alphabet fonts and capable of sewing any type of material. Included in the package is a hard plastic protective cover which is not normally found at this price level. Nor is the other additional add-ons like needle up/down function, plus many stitch patterns can be mirrored.
The QE404 proves that not everything that is computerised has to be complicated. Clearly defined control buttons on the front panel allow you to select your stitch pattern. Because so many stitches have been packed in, they have been grouped in 3 modes and to help you navigate all the stitches can be viewed on the front panel for quick reference which saves reaching for the instruction book.
- Mode one selection is for most used utility stitches.
- Mode two selection has a unique range of decorative patterns.
- Mode three selection is fonts, upper case alphabet and numbers.
Each stitch is pre-set to its optimum setting, but can be fine tuned with the +/- buttons for personal preference. Upper case alphabet including numbers and punctuation can be stored in the memory to string letters together and stitch out names tapes. All of the regular utility stitches are available including overlock, stretch plus no less than 13 different styles of buttonhole. All stitched out in one step, automatically matching the size of the button. Combinations of standard, keyhole, round end and stretch button holes plus eyelets. Not only does it look good but offers many labour saving functions.
At approx 8.5Kg it not the lightweight, but when considering how the powerful motor will effortless manage seaming of any fabric from the lightest silks, heavy denim to multi layers while quilting, its not surprising. The feed dog can also be lowered, which is essential for free embroidery.
Complete with extension table, the QE404 is also ideal for those larger projects and for quilting enthusiasts with specialist presser feet included such as the walking foot, straight stitch foot and free hand embroidery foot.
Choose your desired stitch by simply pressing the stitch selection button. Quickly set the stitch width and length with the touch buttons. Secure the ends of your stitching by selecting the reverse/reinforcement stitch key. Choose whether the needle is up or down when the machine stops with the needle-stop position key.
By reducing the sewing speed, beginners will be able to work with confidence and accuracy. This feature is also useful when working on intricate detail.

Near Oban Review by Senga Nivlagl
I am delighted with my new machine. I'm so pleased to be retired so that i can spend a considerable amount of time using it.. It is very versatile. My only problem is that the translation of some of the instructions is inaccurate. The free gifts are excellent and have already been put to use. So, thank you for your the speedy delivery and a very resonable price for the machine. (Posted on 11/24/2014)

I am delighted with my new machine and so glad that I am retired which means that I can spend a lot of time using it.
My only problem is with some of the instructions because they seem to be not translated accurately.
The free gifts of scissors and sewing threads were extremely appreciated.
Thank you for also for your quick delivery and very reasonable price. (Posted on 11/24/2014)
West Sussex Review by Diane
Ordered the machine Friday and was delivered Saturday so this was a great start. This is only a partial review as my lovely hubby has purchased this for me for Christmas, however I couldn't resist a sneaky peak, lots of lovely free gifts and the machine looks fab. I really can't wait to get going on this, I love sewing and thought I would upgrade after giving away my old brother machine to a young girl who couldn't afford one. I did look at quite a few machines before settling for this one as it offered a great range of stitches and for a very reasonable price. I will follow up as soon as I'm allowed to get my hands on it, can't wait. (Posted on 10/30/2014)
Selkirkshire Review by Evie
I love my new Frister + Rossmann QE404. I have tried pretty much all of the stitches. The only down point I have come across is when doing an over locking stitch with the specialised foot as shown on the screen the needle hits on the foot, I tried adjusting it but this made no difference. I am not bothered by this as there is a plethora of stitches and there are plenty of other over locking stitches that I have found that work. The one step button hole is so easy to use as is the easy needle threader. I particularly love the fact that you can control this machine purely by hand, I have issues with a shaking leg so this has really been a god send and the button positions are so accessible. I really like the speed control, you can adjust to suit your preferred working speed and it comes up gradually so plenty time to do a locking stitch. I have many other feet that I purchased for a Janome machine and they fit and work really nicely. Overall a super machine that you can grow into if you are a beginner or an intermediate sewer. I will add that I do not quilt and purchased this machine for dressmaking and making rag-dolls as well as fabric bears, so I therefore can not comment on its quilting capabilities. I am in love with my new machine, and a special thank you to Sewing Machine Sales as I ordered the machine at 3pm and it arrived just before 10am the following day!. Excellent price and service, will be back for other items! :-) (Posted on 4/11/2014)

London Review by Mrs E17
Great machine, I ordered it based on customer reviews and units sold and I am very pleased. It comes with pretty much everything you will ever need for any sewing project and has many so many features it will keep you busy for hours. The only negative thing is the manual is very poorly translated and without a basic knowledge of sewing machines you could be pretty confused. However it's great value for money and I would certainly recommend it. (Posted on 2/10/2014)
Cornwall Review by Mrs Popple
Fantastic and great value for money. Easy to use, sensible weight, i.e. not too heavy, but a good robust machine. Wonderful selection of stitches, and extremely simple to work. Very quiet machine and lots of adjustments available i.e. 3 speeds of sewing, foot pedal or manual button, extremely useful extension table, and tool box attached but can be removed so easily to create a free arm. All in all, an excellent sewing machine at a fantastic price. Does everything you could ever want from simple sewing to quilting and embroidery. I'm so pleased to have such a wonderfully versatile machine at my fingertips! (Posted on 2/7/2014)
Mytchett Review by Chickenbrain2009
Happy with purchase and service to date. Machine is easy to use, on the down side the throat is smaller than my last machine, which is an issue in quilting, and the light is not so strong. However it is versatile and good value. The instruction manual is hysterical but it is easy to work things out.. Would recommend. (Posted on 2/5/2014)
Kent Review by Alison P
I received this machine about a week ago and have already had quite a good 'play' with it. This is my first computerized sewing machine, bought to replace an ancient New Home electric machine, and I am very pleased with how easy it is to use. You would think Frister & Rossmann would splash out to correct the instruction manual which is hilarious on occasion, but all the basics are understandable and the machine itself is straight forward to use anyway. I have made a couple of things so far and tried out several of the stitch patterns, all of which I am pleased with. The 'mirror' function on some of the stitches will be particularly useful. I was also delighted with all the accessories which came with it, plus highly pleased with the excellent service from Sewing Machine Sales - they are impressively helpful and speedy. Wooler Review by Josiel
Haven't tried all the stitches yet but used the walking foot on my quilt and it was great, smooth as silk. I have a very fancy computerized machine which is quite old now and needed a more simple one but daily use and this easily fits the bill. Plus, it has lots of the extras that I like such as variable speed and more than enough embroidery stitches including the alphabet. So far, very pleased and it was a reasonable price as well. milton keynes Review by stitchy
Have had this machine for the weekend and had a good play. Instruction manual is pretty sparse so it is just as well that the machine is pretty intuitive. It's easy to use and I have tried most functions making a mobile phone holder, using blanket stitch, applique and button holes. Cant't wait to move on to machine embroidery, quilting and applique. My winter nights will be a joy. I have had a Frister Rossman for 20 years and it is still going strong so this one has a lot to live up to - signs are good. (Posted on 10/23/2012)

I purchased this machine to replace my 30 year old Frister Rossman which still works perfectly. The new one is every bit as good if not better. Have found it easy to use and a great price. The service was excellent as well. (Posted on 10/23/2012)

Selsey West Sussex Review by themouselady
Being disabled & in a wheelchair find this machine a real treat to use, very easy to understand the various programmes.Having the option of the start/stop on the machine makes life easier not having to use the foot control. One regret I wish I'd bought one years ago!!! Certainly would recommend this machine (Posted on 5/22/2012)
Basingstoke Review by Janette
My first electronic sewing machine and definately an excellent choice. It is so straightforward to use and the display screen clear and well positioned. Highly recommended for any quilter and for home sewing. The extension table is a real bonus. (Posted on 2/16/2012)
Devon Review by Harriet
Love the machine!!! It arrived in less then 24 hours, first thing in the morning. Tried it out straight away but instruction manual does have spelling mistakes. Read it with that in mind and it made sense with a little bit of my own guess work. Button holes and letters work best on a slow speed but it all looks lovely. I loved being able to use it with out the foot pedal. Makes the different patterns very easy to create. Beautiful looking and the hard cover is brilliant. Value for money, as my own research showed that a machine like this would be a lot more expensive with a different name on it. (Posted on 1/18/2012)
North Lincolnshire. Review by Madfriend
This machine ticks most of the boxes and is well worth the money. It sews beautifully, nice tight even stitches and once you understand the computerised instructions is a doddle to work.
Having been used to my old Janome Memory Craft 8000 I had to re-adjust myself to this one. Quilting free hand wasn't easy: the thread kept snapping. But with a good quality embroidery thread I overcame that and it now quilts well. I love the Frister Rossmann more and more each time I use it. I like the fact it has many of the features of my old Janome but without the price tag. It is excellent value for money, is a good solid machine which came with many quality extras. Compared to many well known brands on the market the QE404 more than holds it own, you get a lot for your money.
the manual is poor to understand so I made my own notes and can now work the computerised stitches perfectly. I'd like to see a better instruction manual.
Also it isn't whisper quiet, but no noisier than any other machine. All in all a great machine for the money. (Posted on 9/27/2011)
London Review by Soulayka
I purchase this machine after seing all the features it had and wanting to up grade from my old machine that I had since college.
I'm very happy with the frister Rossman QE404 and tried all the stitches as soon as i received it.It's the first time I have a computerised machine. The only disapointing thing is the stitched eyelet which I was particularly looking forward too; it doesn't come out as a proper circle and the stitches around are not defined enough. The fact that the size of some stitches is already pre-determined and can't be changed is also annoying and a let down. Apart from that so far so good and I just need to get started sewing. The machine has got great many features and the price is incredible when comparing to other make/performance. It seems well built ; not at all cheap looking. Great for embellishing fabrics. It would be even better if it came with a more comprehensive manual or even a DVD. (Posted on 9/22/2011)
