Top quality sewing machine, this lightweight L14 from Brother is a dream to use. Brand new model with many features that a more expensive machine would have; like drop in bobbin with view through cover and bright LED lighting. It is easy to operate with a single clearly defined dial to select the stitch function.
Its portable, weighing-in at a mere 6kg but supports rigid aluminium internal body plus a host of up-market features. This innovative model fits into a niche market of consumers who need a lightweight machine but with full size power. This versatile L14 sewing machine can cope with numerous sewing tasks from repairing clothes to hemming curtains.
Its ideal for anyone looking to sew for the first time and make basic alterations and repairs. This machine is easy to use. Turn the soft dial selector and select 4 step button hole or a host of other stitches. It has an electronic foot control which means greater needle penetration even at slower stitching speeds. Straight stitching and zig zag stitching in three pre set lengths quickly selected by the stitch selection dial.
Of most interest to the user would be the twin needle sewing option, top drop in bobbin with view through cover, button hole in only 4 steps and its sleeve arm sewing capabilities. We can recommend this sewing machine over many others at a similar price for a few reasons. Superior and smooth rotary bobbin system is not normally found on a machine at this low price and its super light for easy lifting.
Top Loading Bobbin
The easy-to-view window tells you at a glance when your bobbin is low on thread. Simply drop in a full bobbin and get ready to sew immediately.
Easy clip on buttonholing foot. Use the markings to measure your buttonhole exactly in a 4 simple steps.
The machine converts from flat bed to free arm by simply removing the extension table. Ideal for sewing around cylindrical items such as trouser legs, sleeves, bags or for attaching pockets.
At the end of every seam it is best practice to reverse sew for a stitch or two even when sewing on light silk to heavy denim.
Full instructions and instructional DVD included. Also included bobbins, machine needles, zigzag foot also used for straight stitching. The 4-step automatic buttonhole foot and the handy button sewing-on foot.

Amble Review by Tracey Abbott
Very happy with this machine, excellent value for money for me as a novice machinist. My husband was so interested in what I was doing he tried it and is now wanting to learn more. Think this could be the beginning of something of a long term interest. Excellent delivery service 24 hr from ordering to it being delivered (Posted on February 16, 2017)
Fife Review by Vicki O'Brien
ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED WITH THIS MACHINE. I PURCHASED A CHEAPER MACHINE FOR MY GRANDDAUGHTERS CHRISTMAS WHICH WAS FAULTY, EXCHANGED IT SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS STILL DISAPPOINTED SO DECIDED TO SPEND A BIT MORE. THIS MACHINE IS A DREAM. EASY TO USE . I THINK IT IS EVEN BETTER THAN MY OWN MACHINE. WOULD RECOMMEND THIS SEWING MACHINE TO ALL LEVELS OF SEWERS. (Posted on January 10, 2017)
Windsor Review by Sophie G
Very good instructions on how to set up and I'm a COMPLETE beginner so must be good if I can do it! Finished the front of a quilt with all the given accessories and just coming back to SMS to buy a walking foot for the thicker layers (Posted on October 24, 2016)

SUSSEX Review by LARRY HEARN
The delivery from sewing machine sales was excellent. The L14 is a great little starter (never owned one before) It was easy to set up with the help of the video. Quality looks good, first job was moving the curtain hook band, which it handled well and the machine did not move about on the table, so is very stable. I have not used the other features yet, For the money I don't think you can go wrong (Posted on July 14, 2016)
Stockport Review by Gwill
First, thanks for the excellent descriptions and specifications on your website; and for the slick handling of my order. So far, the L14 seems very good, especially for the attractive price. It was very simple to get going: I wound a bobbin, threaded the machine and made a trial sewing in the time it took to read the leaflet. I like the easy stitch selection and the useful range. The repeatable tension control allows precise adjustment. My first real job was to use zig-zag stitching to repair a small tear with good results.

Staffordshire Review by Christine Salt
This sewing machine is a delight to use. I have previously used only very old heavy machines, so to be able to move it easily is a bonus. The CD is very helpful to me and it is a joy to thread as you can imagine from the previous old fashioned machines I have worked with. I am going to now teach my teenage Granddaughter to use it, she is excited to begin during next week at half term! (Posted on May 20, 2015)
Norh Yorkshire Review by ChrisN
This is a Which? Best Buy - and that seems right to me. It's extremely good value and a very neat machine. It also has a blind hem stitch, which I wanted for altering the lengths of trousers - although you do have to buy the blind hem foot as an extra (but it isn't particularly expensive at £10.75p). The only drawback is that it hasn't got an overlocking or edge stitch for finishing raw edges - if it had, I would have given it five stars. Also, the pre sales advice and service from this firm were excellent. (Posted on May 20, 2015)

I bought this machine for my wife. She is delighted with it. She finds it very easy to use. Sewing is not her hobby but she loves the machine so much she can't leave it alone. (Posted on January 20, 2015)
West Yorkshire Review by Jan M
Received my Brother sewing machine last week and have been using it ever since. The instructions are clear even if you have no knowledge about threading sewing machine. Tried all options except buttonholes so far but am sure that will be okay. Slightly unhappy with storage box, but I don't use it as I have a sewing basket. Also ordering and delivery were perfect. Leeds Review by Betty
What a great machine! I chose this model as my first sewing machine purchase... and I am very glad I did! It is very easy to get going straight away. It comes with a handy short instructional DVD which at the very least helped me learn how to thread the machine as well as giving you handy tips! All in all I would highly recommend this machine - it feels like a machine that can grow with me as my skills develop. (Posted on January 16, 2012)
Leeds Review by Betty
What a great machine! It is my first sewing machine - and as a novice it was very easy to pick up! It has a short but sweet introductory DVD which helps... at the very least, how to thread the machine! I would definitely recommend this machine. (Posted on January 16, 2012)
West Wickham, Kent Review by marje52
I had to order a replacement machine at very short notice. Cannot fault speed of delivery, received within 2 days. Brilliant. Nice simple machine to use. I mainly require a machine for repairs and occasionally I make curtains and blinds. Agree with other comments that its a nice straightforward machine to operate. Also, it being a lightweight machine does not detract from its capability and as also said before, deals with thicker fabrics very well. Early days, but so far , a very good machine and for an excellent price. (Posted on November 15, 2011)
