Overlock Sewing Machine Unique Model Types

Overlocker (sometimes called a serger) Is primarily used for finishing seams, trimming excess fabric, and preventing fraying. It creates a clean, professional-looking edge on fabric. They typically use multiple threads (usually 3 to 5) to create overlock stitches. These stitches wrap around the edge of the fabric, securing the raw edges. At the same time, they can trim the fabric edge as they sew, and are excellent for sewing knit fabrics or stretchy materials as the stitches can stretch with the fabric. Their speciality is seaming, edging, hemming, gathering, and adding elastic to garments, mostly used for making T-shirts, kids clothes, activewear, and other stretch garments. Cover Stitch:  (often referred to as a cover hem. Particularly useful for manufacturing stretchy garments, as the stitch can stretch and recover with the fabric. They do not have a blade to trim fabric. This stitch looks like a parallel double, or triple row of straight stitches on the top side and a overlock-like stitch on the underside. They typically use 2 to 3 needles and 1 looper to create a cover stitch. Their speciality is joining, hemming, and topstitching, to produce a sweatshirt just like shop purchased items, they are especially useful on 2, 3 or 4-way stretch materials. Coverlock: Is a combination or combo model, meaning it can overlock and sew a cover stitch, but not both at the same time. Set the coverlock to overlocker mode to trim the fabric edge and secure the cleanly cut edge using 2, 3 or 4 threads. Adjust to cover stitch mode and sew two needle cover stitch. This versatile hybrid machine allows you to perform a wide range of tasks in garment construction and finishing, without the need for two separate models.
