I for one am delighted that Singer now have a formidable Quilting machine on the market. The 8500Q is large, bright, spacious and quiet. With the Chunky solid design supported by a heavy duty solid casr frame the machine has taken conception from previous models like the 160 and the xl400 with it's easy peasy threading operation. The take up lever on the Modern Quilter is laid horizontally along the top of the machine so there's no "down" "up" "down" motion when threading, just simply from the spool pin, through the auto tension unit and straight down to the needle, and using the auto needle threader, with practice you could probably thread it your eyes closed.
The Singer Quilting machine has all you would expect a quilting machine to have.
A knee lift for one, essential for the bigger projects where you need both hands on the job.
Tacking stitch mode, I use this a lot in patchwork to ensure a lovely neat tie off at the start and end of every patch.
Built in thread cutter, keep those loose and messy threads to a minimum not to mention the amount of thread you save.
Needle up, Needle down button, ideal for keeping control and for on the spot pivoting.
Variable speed control so you can go fast when you want to but more importantly slow when you need to.
13 different needle positions left/center/right using the stitch width function.
There are 99 stitches plus Lettering to choose from and they are all east to navigate to using the Stitch selection dial, simply turn the top dial and the screen will display the stitch relevant to the stitch number, choose between utility, decorative, lettering and buttonhole stitches. You can view through stitches individually or by pressing the center of the top dial you can scroll through in 10's, Stitch single stitches at a time or stitch in repetition sequences set in the machine memory. Every time you select a stitch the machine will automatically set it's length and width for optimal sewing, but either of these can also be adjusted to suit personal desire.
