How to find my sewing machine model number?

Over the years and the hundreds of different models and brands, finding the correct parts and accessories is getting more difficult. You need to know your sewing machines model number, to be able to obtain simple items like, the correct foot, spools, or even needles.

So where can I find the model number?

1900-1950's

Heavyweight cast iron models were first produced in mass numbers, mainly sold by Singer.

It depends on the age of your sewing machine, some of the very old black and gold sewing machines, never had a model number printed on the body or chassis.

It may have a number stamped on a small plate, like the image, for example, Y2149596 which is a serial number, and not really unfull when you need to know the model number! In fact, that serial number belongs to the Singer 15K series, 15K is the model number.

Most models number of that era 1900-1950's were 2 or 3 digits followed by a letter, EG 99K, 127K, 201K, they can only be researched to find their model as it may not be on the sewing machine at all, a good starting point is the official Singer website, and this helpful page

.

1940-1970's

Still cast iron and heavyweight, but manufactured later, between 1940-1970's.

On later sewing machines, when the machine body may have been cream, they often had the model number printed on the machine body somewhere.

Usually hidden or difficult to notice if you don't know where to look, the models numbers were 3 or 4 digits for example 324, 457, or 411K and may have had a single letter on the end.

The location was on the front panel, just under the stitch length or width dial, the small 3 digit model number was ofter overlooked.

1970-1990's

More modern machines would have a data plate with the model number stamped on.

On newer models with automatic stitches, or even computerised examples, would have a data plate for identification, it would also show the voltage, watts and possibly also the serial number or even where it was made, as well as, the all important model number.

What to look for? It should be 3 or 4 numbers, may be with 1 or 2 letters, like the ones in the image.

1990-2020's

Present day sewing machine all have the model number printed on a data plate, or they may have a model name

Some sewing machines, have names to id them, for example Expression, Stellaire, Atelier, Pro and so on. The names ID's the series, but often does not identify the machine enough for parts or feet replacement, hence you/we still need to know the model number! Which would be on the data plate at the rear.

On some of the latest machines, you will find its name proudly embellished on the front covers, EG, 770QE PRO, Sewist 725s, Innovis A65, all of which are easy to see.

If you still have the original box, like the one in our image, you can find the model number stamped on it.

Use any or all the methods above to view the model, and from there we can help you find any spares you require.
