The straight stitch foot is mostly used to help give a perfect stitch. Quilt makers love this foot because of it's wide pressing area and flat base which helps stablize the fabric. The small round needle hole helps prevent fabric puckering.
It is mainly used for straight stitches and a very wide varity of fabric types anything from organsa to denim.
Note: when stitching awkward to sew fabrics, specialist feet are always recommended.
