This J foot is used for overcast stitches, that stitch to the side and can pucker or curl the fabric, to prevent the fabric from curling under.
There is a little wire on the edge of the foot, which prevents curling of the fabric edge.
Using the edging foot J is super easy, simply snap on the Edging foot J, select an overcast or overedge stitch and turn the hand wheel by hand, to be sure the needle does not hit the foot. Finally, adjust stitch width as needed and happy sewing!
There is a little visual example on the back of the packaging, of how the foot will look whilst stitching.
