This special foot has unique cut-out and 3 height changes on its base. The Gathering Foot G gathers and can cut the edge of the fabric at the same time. This foot can be used to form gathering for skirts and curtains. In addition, it can be used to form soft blouse ruffles, ruffled trim for home dec projects and much more. Using the suggested settings found in the instructions for the foot, the gathering ratio can be adjusted for tight or loose gathers.

This is one sewing machine foot I have had on my wish list for a few years but when I decided to make a tutu for my granddaughter I decided it was definitely now time to make the purchase! Soooo glad I did- it took minutes to gather so much fabric and anyone that has worked with the tutu stuff - it is definitely 'wild' and being able to gather it so easily made a huge difference. Over the years I have made loads of things that needed to be gathered and I am looking forward to using it with my other projects now. It makes very even gathers and gives great flexibility with how tight or lose you want the gathers but they will all be evenly dispersed. I have not yet, but will make myself a few samples using different settings and fabrics so when I come to use it for a project I will know exactly what setting to use to get the result I need.
While the instructions they provide are good and help you to set it up on the machine and tell you what each different setting is available and does - they don't tell you about using 'X' setting with 'Y' fabric you will need 'Z' fabric length to get 'W' finished fabric width - hence you will need to provide your own instructions for a reference when using it. That should not be a problem as it will also give you practice before using it in earnest.
