This plastic cover is located on the front of the machine above the needle and presser foot. It covers the thread take up lever and if the thread jumps out of position while stitching or the machine has been incorrectly threaded! The thread can cut into this plastic cover and once damaged will cause tension issures, looping or thread snapping.
The simple fix is to replace this thread take-up lever cover.
