Video - How to sew with the Pfaff Rolled Hem Foot
The video shows how to use the rolled hemming foot. Sewing a neat and professional rolled hem can be satisfying. It hides the raw fabric edge and the garment looks like a shop purchased item. It automatically rolls the fabric edge while the machine stitches over that rolled edge, it is a popular foot that is available for most sewing machine brands.
It is easy to get perfect edges using this foot.
- Select straight stitch, engage foot and IDT (if available on machine).
- If needed, iron the beginning of hem to 2, 3, 4 or 6 mm wide, depending on size of rolled hem foot. In the video, we are using the 4mm rolled hem foot.
- Place the fabric flat under the foot, with the fabric edge level with the side of the foot.
- Lower needle into fabric to hold in place.
- Then raise the presser foot and pull the edge of fabric into the scroll of the hemmer. Giving it a starting point to follow the scroll, and roll the fabric.
- Lower foot and continue sewing while holding the fabric edge up in the front scroll part of the hemmer foot.
TIP: Do not allow fabric to run under the right half of the presser foot.
Suggestions: Hem crisp fabrics with straight stitch. Hem soft fabrics with zigzag that just encases the tiny size of hem. (Sharply curved areas are not suitable for this type hemmer.)
Stitch: Straight or zigzag
Stitch Length: 2.5
Tension: 3 - 5
