Video - How to use a bias binding foot
The video shows the bias binding foot being used to attach pre-folded bias binding tape to the edge of fabric in one easy step. The bias binding foot can save lots of time with making cushions or home decor.
TIP: Remember, you can make your own bias tape for a real custom effect.
Fitting and using the bias attaching foot
- Screw the bias foot into position on the presser foot shaft.
-
Cut the end of bias tape at a diagonal, to make inserting it a little quicker.
-
Feed bias tape into the metal scroll of binder and pull the tape about 1" out to back.
-
Adjust binder and/or needle position so that needle pierces fabric approximately 1/16" from the folded edge of bias tape.
-
Stitch about 1" along bias tape.
-
Insert the edge of the fabric to be covered between bias tape edges, and into the metal slot of the binder. The bias binder and tape, now, encloses the raw fabric edge during sewing.
Stitch: Straight or a small zigzag stitch.
Stitch length: 3mm
Tension: 3 - 5
And stitch away. Bias can be added to fine fabrics as well as cushions or quilts. If you are going to bind quilt edges, you may be wanting to use a larger, more sturdy quilt binder for that task.
