How to Apply Beads or Pearls Using the Beading Foot

The Beading Foot makes it easy to overlock decorative elements like beads or pearls onto fabric, ideal for embellishing hems, edges, or inserts. This guide outlines how to set up your machine and achieve consistent results with up to 4 mm pearls.

Machine Setup

  • Select either 2-thread flatlock wide or 2-thread flatlock narrow stitch.
  • Adjust stitch length between 2.5 and 4, depending on the size of the beads or pearls.
  • Open both the swivel cover and looper cover, then lower the upper knife. Close both covers once adjustments are made.

Preparing the Fabric and Foot

  • Mark your placement line on the fabric using a wash-away marker, then fold fabric along the marked line.
  • Position the folded fabric under the presser foot, about 1/8 inch from the edge of the needle plate.
  • Lower the needle into the fabric to secure its position.

Adding Beads or Pearls

  • Place beads or pearls into the groove of the Beading Foot so they feed smoothly.
  • Lower the presser foot to hold the embellishments in place.
  • Begin stitching manually using the handwheel to ensure accurate alignment for the first few stitches.
  • Continue sewing at a steady pace, allowing the foot to guide the beads as stitching progresses.
