Blind Hemmer Unique Features

Let us try to explain a little more about these clever machines that use curved-needle wizardry.

Hemmers (often called a blind stitcher, or blind hemmer) Is a dedicated machine that can sew a professional-quality, nearly invisible hems that elevate the look of garments and home furnishings.

Can a regular sewing machine sew a blind hem? Yes, many sewing machines have a stitch that tries to emulate a true blind stitch. Hemmers use a curved-needle, the sewing machine stitch does not equal the professional-quality hems a hemmer produces.

How many threads does it use? Only one reel of thread is needed, use the thread colour to match the material, or use nylon invisible thread. Which is threaded through the curved-needle eye and with the help of a looper, it forms the blind stitch hem.

Are they heavy to lift? Although hemmers are compact is size, they are made for industrial use and are robust, and weigh in at about the same as a heavy sewing machine, just over 11Kg.

Are they easy to thread? Yes, they are simple and fast to thread, you don't have to thread the looper like an overlocker so threading is easy.

What about different fabric types? The depth of needle-to-fabric penetration can be fine-tuned for most fabric types. The needle depth penetration can be adjusted and defends on the fabric weight being sewn, the needle penetration on lightweight soft fabric would not need to be as much as thicker woven material. Be warned, there is a limit on thickness the curved-needle can pierce.
