Which is best? Will it sew thick fabric?

I've had my machine for 10 years now - it's finally developed a problem with timing (I think) it's stitching loops underneath and nothing I can do will solve the problem. As it will probably be too costly to have this fixed, and bearing in mind the use I've already had, I'm looking to replace this - with another 9960 (or possibly a 9985 which is basically identical motor etc but with a bigger repertoire of stitches). My 9960 has been excellent - I've discovered it sometimes cuts thread too close to the needle when spools are cross wound and the thread springs out of the needle. It also isn't keen on different weights of thread in bobbin and spool when doing fancy stitching. I've used this machine for dressmaking, furnishings, and several large patchwork bed quilts, using a walking foot and sewing slowly enough not to strain the motor, after all, this is not an industrial machine, and heavy fabrics can be a challenge to handle. This is an excellent machine for sewing craft items - I make lovely padded zip bags,it's great for clothes with perfect buttonholes - and you can be really lazy and use the machine to attach your buttons also, it's happy sewing zillions of bits of fabric into pathwork quilts and then quilting them for you. Really ideal machine. For me it would be absolute perfection if the bed were wider, but as I can't afford everything - this will do fine.

compared to my old machine I've just gone from a lada to a top of the range jag .this machine is one of the best I have ever used and I've been sewing for 50 years the features are great .i really like the pull out stitch cards as they don't get in the way.the speed is good .tried this on a range of fabric not missed a stitch .well worth the money .hope it lasts for a long time.really well made machine with all the features anyone will ever need.singers experience shows with this wonderful machine

Excellent purchase and very quick delivery. I had an old IKEA sewing machine that has done me well but finally given up. I didn't want anything fancy just the basics straight stitch and zig zag and it runs so smoothly, didn't even have to adjust the tension - brilliant machine - thank you.
